Healthy Inspectors (and why it is important)

If you are a realtor, and plan on being one for a while it is imperative to choose an inspection team that will be around and physically capable as well! The stereotype of the home inspector being some older retired person at the end of a career is OVER, and here are some good reasons why having a physically fit inspection TEAM on your referral list is a must in todays fast paced real estate world!

In the inspecting world, fitness isn’t just about looking good or staying active—it’s essential for maintaining safety, productivity, and long-term career success. Inspectors, whether they’re on construction sites, digging up septic systems, or crawling around under a house, face physical demands that can lead to fatigue, injury, and burnout. Here’s why fitness should be a priority when partnering with an inspection team:

1.    Enhanced Safety: Physical fitness directly impacts an inspector’s ability to perform tasks safely. Strong muscles, improved balance, and better coordination reduce the risk of accidents and injuries. Whether lifting a concrete lid or navigating attics and crawlspaces, a fit inspector is less likely to strain their body or misstep, which can prevent damage to themselves or property!

2.    Increased Endurance: The inspection world often requires long hours and physically demanding tasks. Without a solid foundation of fitness, exhaustion sets in quickly, leading to decreased productivity and a higher chance of making mistakes. Imagine your inspector’s third 140 degree attic, or second 3k square foot low crawlspace of the day. Inspectors with good endurance can work efficiently, handle stress better, and maintain a consistent level of performance throughout the day.

3.    Faster Recovery: The physical demands of inspecting can be taxing on the body. Inspectors who stay fit experience faster recovery times after strenuous work or minor injuries. Regular exercise, such as strength training and cardiovascular conditioning, can help maintain joint flexibility and muscle strength, which reduces downtime.

4.    Mental Toughness: Physical fitness is also linked to mental well-being. Exercise has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance focus—all critical for handling the unpredictable nature of inspections (and the buyer’s dad). A fit inspector is more likely to stay sharp under pressure, think clearly during challenging situations, and make better decisions. This is most important during our overviews after the inspection is complete!

5.    Long-Term Career Sustainability: Fitness is a long-term investment in one’s career. Over time, the wear and tear on a body in physically demanding jobs can lead to chronic pain or injury. By staying fit, inspectors can help preserve their mobility, reduce the risk of long-term health issues, and extend their career longevity, all while improving their quality of life. Fitness isn’t just a luxury for inspectors; it’s a necessity. It ensures better performance, safety, and longevity in a physically demanding profession, making it an essential part of any inspector’s lifestyle. Something to consider when choosing an inspection team you plan on using for the rest of your career!
